Every hotel has its own character.
Its own story, logic, and small particularities that shape the overall experience.
Kastro Hotel is a hotel with a clear identity — and this is something we prefer to communicate openly, calmly, and honestly.
The following text is based on what our guests often share with us: the positive comments that encourage us, as well as a few points that sometimes need clearer explanation before arrival.
Location: the hill, the view, the calm
Kastro Hotel is built on a hillside above Agios Kirykos.
This is perhaps its most defining feature.
From this elevated position, the view over the sea and the port is wide, peaceful, and deeply relaxing — something mentioned again and again in guest reviews. Many visitors talk about quiet moments on their balconies or terraces, enjoying the scenery and the sense of calm.
At the same time, the hilltop location offers what many people truly seek on holiday: silence and tranquility. Although the hotel is close to the center of Agios Kirykos, the atmosphere remains serene and unhurried.
Access, stairs, and getting around
Cars can reach the hotel entrance directly, which is especially important for guests traveling with luggage.
The hotel consists of two buildings that follow the natural slope of the land. There are interior and exterior staircases, as well as two elevators serving the floors.
For most guests this is not an issue, but for visitors with mobility difficulties, it is advisable to contact us in advance so they have a clear understanding of the layout.
Arriving on foot is possible, but it requires stamina — particularly during summer or when carrying heavy bags. For this reason, having a car is strongly recommended.
Rooms and everyday comfort
The rooms are designed with comfort, rest, and practicality in mind.
This is where guests spend their time indoors — and it is reflected in the feedback we receive, as room comfort is rarely mentioned as a concern.
Cleanliness, both in rooms and shared areas, is consistently highlighted in guest reviews and remains a priority for us every day.
About the bathrooms
Some guests note that the bathrooms in certain rooms are on the smaller side.
This is true and reflects the building standards of the time when the hotel was constructed.
The building is fully legal, and all bathrooms are clean and functional. Unfortunately, their size cannot be altered, and we believe it is important to be transparent about this. In practice, most guests spend their time enjoying the room, the balcony, or exploring the island — where the true spirit of the holiday lies.
Style, furniture, and philosophy
Kastro Hotel is not a modern or luxury design hotel.
Its aesthetic is based on solid, high-quality wooden furniture and a timeless approach.
We do not follow design trends. Our focus is on functionality, durability, and simplicity. Guests who choose us usually seek a calm, honest stay rather than a fashionable or luxury experience.
Distance from the beach and island mobility
The hotel is not located directly on the beach. Reaching swimming spots generally requires a car, as is common in many parts of Ikaria. In return, guests enjoy the view, the quiet, and the feeling of being slightly removed from the bustle.
What Kastro Hotel truly is
Kastro Hotel is a “castle” not only by name, but by nature:
built high, with character, calmness, and a strong sense of place.
It is ideal for guests who:
- appreciate views and peaceful surroundings,
- value simplicity over luxury,
- seek cleanliness and warm, human hospitality,
- understand that location and architecture are part of the experience.
In closing
For us, hospitality begins with honesty.
When expectations are clear, the experience becomes genuinely enjoyable.
Kastro Hotel is exactly what it is — and it is happy to welcome guests who choose it for precisely that reason.
